A loan of $675 helped to buy pigs and animal feed.

Ana Lourdes's story

Mrs. Ana is a member of the communal bank "Barrio Sucre" and she lives in the Cumbe parish in Cuenca. Here there are livestock farms with large pastures, and old and modern haciendas, which, while they do not have the charm of the traditional architecture, lend variety to the landscape. The people maintain the local traditions and culture and are kind, gentle, and very charismatic.

Ana is 32, married and has four children, ages 11, 9, 7 and 5, who are all in school. Her husband works as a bricklayer and they own the house they live in.

Ana spends most of her time taking care of the children and raising pigs and guinea pigs. She also is involved in agriculture, growing vegetables which she sells in her community and also uses for home consumption.

The communal bank is on its second loan and she plans to use it to buy pigs and animal feed.

Her goal is to have a larger livestock business, and see that her children get the best education possible so they can become good professionals in the future.
