Maria's story

Maria is 50 years old and married with five children. She was born in the urban settlement of Cotowincho in Urubamba District in Urubamba Province in Cusco Department and still lives in the same city where she was born.

Maria sells food and has a small restaurant at the entrance to Cotowincho settlement. She prepares different types of dishes such as, for example, a family menu, traditional regional food and others. At this time Maria needs a loan to purchases ingredients wholesale because it is not economical to buy in small quantities. She will purchase sackfuls of rice, drums of cooking oil and sacks of sugar.

The Munay Tika Communal Bank is made up of responsible and hardworking people who are moving their families forward. A majority of the members live in Urubamba Province in Cusco Department where they conduct their economic activities.

Cusco Department is known as a highly commercial tourist zone and for its traditional Inti Raymi celebration and because Machu Picchu, one of the seven wonders of the world, is found here.
