A loan of $575 helped to hire laborers.

Sergio's story

40-year-old Sergio lives with Amanda. The couple have six children but only live with their two youngest who are 6 and 4 years old. Sergio lives in his own home, in the indigenous community of Palomar, in Río Negro district, in Satipo province. He is an expert in his field. Sergio is a farmer who grows cacao, corn, coffee and bananas. He works hard so that all of his products are strong and healthy.

Sergio has three 'cuadras' (measurement of agricultural land) of farmland. He works this land so that his fruit grow well.

Sergio considers his most profitable crop to be cacao. Right now, it fetches 5 soles a kilo but Sergio says that on good days it can fetch 7 soles. He works hard to obtain top-quality produce and this is why it sells quickly. Coffee is also one of Sergio's priorities.

Sergio managed to save a certain amount of his income for future projects. This enabled him to support and educate his older children who now have their own families and are working. Sergio instilled many values in them, above all solidarity. This will be the second time that Sergio has received a loan from MFP. He pledges to be punctual in making his repayments. He belongs to 'Los Kontonas de Palomar' community bank and feels happy to be part of the group. He will use his loan money to pay for the services of laborers who he will hire to weed his coffee and cacao crops.
