A loan of $825 helped to buy 2 tonnes of cement bags, 16 cubic metres of sand, and brick molds.

Simon's story

This borrower is a 44-year-old married father of five children, four of whom attend school. He ended his studies in high school and, not having enough financial support with the small amount of money he had from working several small jobs, he started a brickmaking business in 2005. He buys cement and sand in sufficient quantity to make 500 bricks per day, and his customers are builders near his workplace. He earns 150,000 Frs. each week. He repaid his two previous loan cycles without difficulty and has built up considerable savings. With this new loan, he is going to expand his stock by buying 2 tonnes of cement (each tonne consisting of twenty 50-kg sacks), 16 cubic metres of sand, and five brick molds. Currently, he has recruited two young workers who work with him and whom he pays at the end of each month. His ambition is to become an entrepreneur and, as a good father and husband, he has finished building his family's house and takes good care of his children's education.
