Oleg's story

Oleg, his wife and their three-year-old daughter live in the village of Gladkovka, Kherson region. Oleg grows vegetables in greenhouses. On 50 ares of land, he grows 3 tons of radishes, 3000 tomato plants, 2000 cucumber plants, 20,000 heads of cabbage and 10 tons of potatoes annually. Oleg has been farming for four years and has invested approximately 60,000 Ukrainian hryvnias into his business. His profit is approximately 5,000 hryvnias. Oleg plans to invest his Kiva loan of 20,000 hryvnias into the purchase of fertilizer (3000 hryvnias), plastic sheeting (6000 hryvnias), seeds (4000 hryvnias), and protective covering materials (2000 hryvnias). He also plans to purchase structural materials for the greenhouses (2000 hryvnias), install heating in these greenhouses (2000 hryvnias) and repair one of his greenhouses. This will help him prepare for the coming season and earn a decent profit on his own harvest and wholesale orders.
