A loan of $3,075 helped a member to buy building materials for the construction of a house.

Abu Bakarr D.'s Group's story

Pictured above are teachers from a primary school in the village of Yogomaia, in northern Sierra Leone. They have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to seek a loan of 13,200,000.00 SLL in order to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, these teachers will repay the loan out of their monthly salaries. Their school’s bursar is directly responsible for deducting the repayment from their salaries and repays SMT/Kiva on their behalf.

Abu is the leader of this group of teachers. Born in the village of Mussaia, the fifty-five-year-old is married. Abu has been a teacher for thirty-three years. He is going to use his share of the loan to buy building materials for the construction of a house. He will also use part of the loan to pay school fees for his children.
