A loan of $1,275 helped to buy three heads of cattle, one milk cow and one baby calf.

Sona's story

Sona, a 45-year-old married mother of one son, is an IDP (internally displaced person) living in the Bilasuvar IDP Settlement. For the past 12 years Sona has been breeding cattle and cows in order to supplement her husband`s salary, which is too low to cover family needs. Meat is in very high demand in Azerbaijan, where people use it in everyday dishes like pilau and dolma. Sona also keeps milk cows for personal use and to sell to neighbors. She also sells home products.

Sona usually buys small calves, raising and fattening them for five-six months, and then reselling them for profit in the livestock bazaar. The business earns about 250 AZN each month and is now the family's main source of income. Because she wants to expand her business and improve her family's living conditions, Sona is requesting a loan of 1000 AZN to purchase three heads of cattle, one milk cow, and one baby calf. She has a good client history, and this will be her fourth loan.
