A loan of $500 helped a member to lease a small plot of farmland to plant cassava.

Pheng's Group's story

A resident living in a rural area of the Ponhea Krek district, Pheng is a 49-year-old mother of seven children. Only four of them are still dependent on her and they work at the family's business to help earn a profit. To support her big family, she has been farming rice and planting cassava for 33 years and sometimes she also works for others. With her current source of income, she manages to earn around US$5 per day.

This is the first loan for Pheng's group which consists of two female members. Now she is leading her group to apply for another small loan of KHR1,000,000 each. As the leader, she will use the entire loan to lease a small plot of farmland for her cassava business. This loan will enable her to plant more cassava so as to earn a larger income to improve her standard of living.
