Lus María's story

Lus is member of the "Vegaspamba" communal bank. The members live in the area of same name, in the city of Cuenca. This is a place with lush vegetation and beautiful scenery. The people raise livestock, do crafts, and farm. They are noted for being very hard-working.

Lus is 41, married, and has nine children. Her first four children are adults, who work, and help her financially. Her five younger children are 9, 8, 6, and 2, and her youngest child is 4 months old. Three go to a small school in the city.

Her husband works in construction as a bricklayer. They own their own home. Lus does the household chores, looks after the cildren, and farms. What she harvests is just for her own consumption. She also makes rope. She learned this occupation from her parents.

She is a founding member of the communal bank. She is going to invest her new loan in the purchase of twine for making rope. Her goal is to finish building her house.
