Sarom's Group's story

Sarom is a 58-year-old single woman who lives in a village in the Ponhea Krek district of Cambodia, where farming is a common way to earn a living. She cultivates rice and plants cassava. To earn more income, Sarom sometimes works for others. She has been in the cassava and rice farming business for 2 years and 32 years, respectively. She currently earns almost US $4 per day. This is Sarom’s first group loan with Kiva’s field partner, VisionFund. She and her group member are applying for a loan of KHR 1,000,000 each. As the leader, Sarom will use her entire loan to buy fertilizer and to plant cassava. With this loan, she hopes to increase her crop yield.
