A loan of $1,500 helped to purchase calves.

Mariam's story

Mariam is from a small village in South Georgia. She is 49 years old, married and lives with her family: her husband, Amiran, two adult sons (24 and 22 years old) and a daughter-in-law. Mariam’s sons work as sawyers in a local sawmill. Mariam and Amiran lead the agricultural business of the family. They have two milk cows and six calves. Mariam produces cheese and sells it on the local open market. In addition, the family owns one hectare of land, where potato and haricot (beans) are grown. Harvested products are also sold on the local market. The total average monthly income of the family is 800 Laris.

Mariam requested a loan to purchase calves. She will raise the calves for a couple of months and in late spring, she will sell them for a higher price. The family will get additional income. Mariam plans to make some savings in the future, in order to renovate the family house, as it is already old and needs some repair.
