Maria Antonia's story

Maria Antonia, age 45, has been married for nine years. Her husband works as a security guard for a private company. She has two children, ages eight and three. She lives with her family in the village of Santa Lucia, Cofradía, Cortes.

Maria has a grocery business, and she sells merchandise. She established her business 20 years ago with her own money. She sells staples like beans, rice, sugar, flour, salt, soft drinks, and dairy products, etc. She also sells sandals for women and men. She devotes the whole day to her business.

Maria has had four loans with ODEF. She is currently requesting her fifth loan to buy products like soap, cleaning products, toothpaste, matches, toilet paper, and condiments, etc. She will also buy merchandise like sandals and clothes. Her goal is to grow her business more. That way she will get better income in order to reinvest by purchasing more products. She will do this to improve her family’s living conditions.
