Miriam Karina's story

Miriam is a member of the El Reencuentro Communal Bank. She lives in an area of the parish of Baños in Cuenca. Baños is located at the foot of the western range of the Andes on a site of irregular relief. Large numbers of people move through this parish attracted by the benefits of its hot springs, the majesty of its temple, and the festival of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Its people are pleasant and kind and they maintain the culture and traditions of their ancestors. The work in commerce, animal rearing, and agriculture.

Miriam is 24 years old, married, and has three daughters who are eight, four, and three years old. Her first two daughters attend a small school in the city. Her husband works as a private employee. They don't own their own home, so they live in a relative's house.

Miriam spends most of her time at home taking care of her children. In her free time she sells clothing through catalogs, which she's been doing for a year now.

This is the first loan she is taking out with the communal bank, which she was invited to join by her mother-in-law. She will use the loan to buy clothing to add to her merchandise.

Her goal is to have a boutique to have a more stable business.
