A loan of $325 helped to purchase fish.

Salimata's story

Salimata was born around 1978 in Niena. She is the mother of six children and lives with her husband in Niena (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). She has been practicing her commercial fish trade for over seven years. Her experience in this field has earned her a good reputation and she receives fish orders.

Five years ago she decided to work with the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso to have the necessary resources to meet her customers’ demand. All her previous loans have been fully reimbursed.

This new loan will allow her to buy 10 baskets of smoked fish each month. She gets her supplies at the Mopti and Sevare markets, as well as in Sikasso. The sales are usually made with an advanced order to customers who are women and pay cash or on credit.

With this loan, she is planning to make a monthly profit of 35, 000 Francs CFA. This profit will enable her to pay her loan and to invest the rest in her activity. She plans on becoming a wholesaler with a good reputation to meet the demand of her ever increasing customers.
