A loan of $775 helped to buy livestock.

María Natividad's story

María is a member of the “Tomebamba” communal bank. She lives in a beautiful sector of the city of Cuenca which is the country’s third most important city and since December, 1999, has been a Cultural Patrimony of Humanity. It has a varied cuisine that captivates the palates of whoever visits. Its residents are very hardworking, tenacious and enterprising. They keep the cultures and traditions of their peoples.

María is 60 years old and the single mother of ten children. Eight of her children are married and live on their own and her two single children work and help her out economically; the house she lives in is hers.

María does her household chores and since she spends her time at home she also raises animals like cattle, guinea pigs and chickens. She also farms; what she harvests is for her own consumption and to sell.

She’s in the second loan with the communal bank and will use it to buy livestock. Her goal is to buy a vehicle.
