Lourdes Monserrate's story

The members of the "Querer es Poder de Riochico" communal bank meet every two weeks in Santa Martha, in Riochico parish, in Portoviejo. This place is known for its vegetation. and the majority of its inhabitants work in agriculture.

This is the place where Lourdes lives. She is 40, in a common-law relationship, and has three children ages 18, 15, and 11. The youngest is in school, and the others in high school. Her husband is a farmer. She is a great mother and housewife, who has a small business in order to help her husband get ahead.

She sells Avon products, (beauty products, perfume, and women's accessories). She sells door to door, although the greater part of her sales are carried out in her home, as several of her customers visit her at home.

This loan is in order to buy more perfume, creams, cosmetics, and costume jewelry. She has been in the communal bank for three loan cycles, and is the group's secretary. She likes it because the group is very close-knit. Her dream is to move forward with her business and family life.
