A loan of $1,125 helped to hire day laborers.

Alejandro's story

Alejandro, 54, is married to Alejandra, 50 and they have seven children. They live together in their own house located in the community of Periavente Alta in Llochegua District. Alejandro is a good worker; he’s a farmer growing cocoa beans and coffee on his own parcels. He also told us that economic need pushed him into this hard line of work.

His beloved wife usually helps him do the work but during harvest time he always hires day laborers that facilitate picking the products which are then sent to a drying area where the beans are dried and finally sold. Alejandro is happy with what he does because thanks to it he pays for his children’s food and education. Later on he plans to open a grocery store to earn additional income. This will be his second MFP loan and he’s committed to make his installment payments punctually. He will use the 3000 new soles to hire day laborers to clear and fertilize his cocoa bean and coffee crops.
