A loan of $600 helped to buy thread in large amounts.

Rafael's story

Rafael lives in the municipality of San Jacinto, a land characterized by its beautiful hammocks and backpacks woven on vertical looms, a traditional activity in this region of the country. His home is composed of his spouse and two children who are 2 and 7 years old who he plans to give as much wellbeing as he possibly can working persistently in his business making bags on vertical looms which is how he currently earns income. However, he believes that he has high growth potential that he hasn’t yet explored and he’s interested in furthering his growth in order to earn more money. He learned this activity while working in another workshop where he made bags on a loom and when he was trained he went out on his own and launched his dream of starting a business of his own. With his business he’s managed to support his family and do some home improvements. His dream for later on is prosperity, to expand the business, improving his home and in future own a good vehicle. Rafael is currently applying for his first Kiva loan which is also his first financing with Fundación Mario Santo Domingo that he will use to buy thread in larger volume to make bags because he needs to fill pending orders he has from customers which guarantees the success of his investment and the gradual increase of his working capital.
