A loan of $1,000 helped to buy corn, sugar, coffee and some tables.

Alexandra Elizabeth's story

Alexandra is a 35-year-old woman who is noted for being a cheerful person with a strong character and who is very responsible at work. She lives with her mother and three children in the city of Ibarra in Ibarra Province.

Alexandra works as a partner in a coffee shop selling “quimbolitos” [sweet, steamed corn cakes], “humitas” [type of tamale] and tamales that are traditional Ecuadorean dishes made from tender corn; they can be sweet or savory and are usually served with coffee or herbal tea.

This is the third loan she’s taken with Fodemi and she will use it to buy raw materials like tender corn, sugar, salt and coffee and also some tables to better serve her customers. This investment will allow her to increase sales and clientele which will help her cover household expenses and support her children since this is her only source of family income. Alexandra’s dream is to be able to build a roof over her coffee shop since she currently is only taking care of customers at tables with umbrellas.
