A loan of $450 helped to buy chickens and pigs.

María Delia's story

María is a member of the communal bank “Las Gaviotas”. She lives in the outskirts of the parish Baños en Cuenca. This parish is an attraction due to its thermal waters that are being taken advantage of through the construction of pools and hotels that welcome thousands of domestic and foreign tourists. In different places in the parish, one can admire beautiful landscapes and paradise-like places rich in agriculture and livestock. The people are warm with friendly and gentle hearts.
María is 39 years old and separated from her husband, though in this union she had 4 children who are 21, 19, 18 and 16 years old. Her first three children work and help her financially, and her last child is studying in the city’s school. She does not have her own home, so she rents.
María is an artisan and makes baskets. She learned this activity working and now undertakes this work on order. She has been working in craftwork since she was 15 years old.
This is her third loan with the communal bank, and she will invest the loan in the purchase of chickens and pigs to start this business.
Her goal is to construct her own home.
