A loan of $1,200 helped buy merchandize for his beekeeping business.

Victor Manuel's story

Víctor Manuel is a 36 year old man who lives with his wife and children in a small town in the province of Guanacaste called La Garita. La Garita is in a plain, its climate is very warm and most of the inhabitants work in cattle raising, agriculture and rural tourism.

Víctor Manuel started his business two years ago as a beekeeper and has noticed that his neighbors are vey happy with everything he has produced at the moment. He says that his work is very interesting since he has seen how his business and demand has grown.

At present, Víctor Manuel needs a loan of ¢600.000 (six hundred thousand colones) to buy the merchandize necessary for his work and finish extracting the product. Specifically he needs containers to store the honey, bottles to sell it in the market, as well as transportation to distribute his product. He hopes that with these items his business will continue to grow as well as his quality of life. Víctor Manuel’s business is doing well but without money he has not been able to make it grow to its full potential.

Víctor Manuel is a member of the La Garita Communal Bank, one of 150 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. He hopes to be able to continue being an active member in these types of organizations and asserts that the ECC has had a great impact in the community since the people did not have the financial opportunities they have now.
