A loan of $1,000 helped to buy 40 boxes of hand fans.

Diénèbou's story

Diénèbou was born circa 1975 in Mampè, in Sikasso Prefecture. She's married and the mother of five children. She lives with her husband and children in a large traditional family in Sanoubougou I Kapel Kourou, an outlying neighborhood of the city of Sikasso (Third Administrative Region of the Republic of Mali).

Eight years ago, after several unsuccessful businesses, she became familiar with buying and selling various items, in particular hand fans, baskets, and mats that she brings back from the Sarro market (Ségou Region), before reselling them at her spot at the market.

Thanks to their quality, her products are very much sought after by her clientele, which comprises mostly housewives and condiments resellers.

Two years ago, eager to better satisfy her ever-increasing clientele, she decided to join Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso. She's now seeking her fourth loan to bolster her working capital, in order to buy 40 boxes of hand fans.

Thans to this loan, she intends to turn an average monthly profit of XOF 250'000 (ca US$ 485), to be used to bolster her working capital, help with the family expenses, and pay the interests of her loan.
