A loan of $1,000 helped to buy DVD players, TV sets, mobile phones, covers, chargers, memory cards, batteries, and earphones.

Kalidou's story

Mr. Kalidou was born in June 1983 in Sikasso. He is single and lives in large traditional family in Médine, a working-class neighborhood in Sikasso (Third Administrative Region of the Republic of Mali).

Two years ago, he became familiar with the business of buying and selling mobile phones and accessories (covers, batteries, charger, earphones, etc).

He runs his business in his shop located along a busy road. His clientele comprises people from all social classes.

About three months ago, eager to better satisfy his ever-increasing clientele, he decided to join Kiva's partner, the MFI Soro Yiriwaso.

He is now seeking his first loan to buy, in Bamako, ten DVD players, five TV sets, forty mobile phones (various brands), three boxes of covers, about fifteen chargers, twenty packs of memory cards, fifteen boxes of batteries, and ten dozen earphones (various kinds).

Thanks to this loan, he intends to turn an average monthly profit of XOF 250'000 (ca US$ 485), to be used to increase his working capital, help with the family expenses, and pay the loan interests.
