A loan of $775 helped to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and accessories.

Jessica Belén's story

The communal bank "Unión y Trabajo" meets every 15 days in the city of Manta. This is a city that is known for beautiful beaches that attract visitors in every season of the year; it's a city with unparalleled beauty and many tourist attractions.

Jessica, 20, lives here in a common-law marriage which has produced a daughter who is a year and a half. Her husband is a security guard.

Jessica is a housewife who, in order to obtain her own resources and help her husband with the household expenses, has a business selling Avon products. Avon products include beauty products, cosmetics, perfumes and accessories for women. She works 3 days a week for 2 to 3 hours per day. She has to take her small daughter with her when she goes out to make her sales, since she doesn't have anyone she could leave her with. This is a bit uncomfortable, but she must do it, because her husband's earnings are not sufficient to cover all of the family's expenses. She sells her products on credit and collects every 8 days. She has had this business for more than 3 years now, and it is going very well for her. What she sells the most are cosmetics, since she says that they are very good products.

This loan will be used to buy perfumes, creams, cosmetics and accessories. This is the 6th loan cycle for this communal bank, and she likes it because the payments on the loans are easy to make.

Her dreams are to continue to make progress with her business and to improve her life.
