Amigos Unidos 1, 2 & 3 Group's story

Sofia is the coordinator of her group Amigos Unidos 1, 2 & 3, which is composed of 15 micro-entrepreneurs located in the city of San Pedro de Macoris. Their community is a rural area surrounded by fields of sugarcane. Sofia runs a comedor (a little restaurant where neighbors and workers eat lunch) where people around her community buy her food. She started her business seven years ago.

Sofia is a single mother of two children. Her most important challenges are to work hard to provide for her family and to help her children go forward in their studies. She is receiving her first loan from Esperanza Internacional and she is committed to working harder to improve her business. Sofia would like to save her profits to reinvest in her business. She wants to have a successful restaurant.

The 15 members of the group are shown in the three pictures taken in their community.

In this group: Sofia, Maria, Serge, Eddy, Philisnet, Jean, Bonicet, Fallene, Ginouse, Belo, Luiciana, Feliz, Francia, Sanon, Vicente
