A loan of $650 helped to buy bags of fertiliser.

Aurora's story

Aurora is 39 years old and lives with Victor. They have four children and live with three of them who are 18, 14 and 9 years of age. The family lives in their own house in the San Ramón district, located in the province of Chanchamayo. Aurora has worked on the farm since she was a child and through this work she has been able to bring up her family. Aurora grows pineapples in the town of La Esperanza and goes there often to look after her crops. Now that her children are on holidays they help her with the exhausting tasks she has to do. Aurora produces 100 boxes of pineapples a week, which she sells at 7 soles each. She says,“In February the price increased in our favour, reaching up to 11 soles a box”. Juan also does his part, working as a carrier with his own moto-taxi. Aurora tells us that he is going well and that at this rate she could increase her production by acquiring other fields of crops in the future. This will be the twelfth loan that Aurora will have taken out with MFP, so she promises to be punctual in her loan payments. Aurora belongs to the community bank “The Heliconias” and is happy with the support of her colleagues. With this loan she will purchase bags of fertiliser for her pineapple crops, which she grows each year for two consecutive months.
