A loan of $950 helped a member to purchase textile fabrics, dresses and other basic materials needed for her business.

Alsafa Group's story

This group is called Al-Safa Group. It consists of five members who are all females: Fatima, Yarim, Ghania* (not pictured), Nadia and Nabeelah. They are from Sana'a and they know each other very well as they have lived in the same neighborhood for long time. All their projects are home-based. However, they have many clients, mostly women. The group took a loan of 200,000 YER.

Nabeelah, the group leader, is a 35-year-old woman who is married and a mother of eight children. She lives in Sana'a and she acquired her profession of dressmaking long ago. Her main business is sewing and due to her good reputation, she has three women in her business to help her sewing. When a woman is getting married or having a party, she comes to Nabeela to sew her gown. Through group lending that AMB offers to women who cannot provide guarantees, Nabeela took a loan of 50,000 YER from AMB in order to purchase textile fabrics, dresses and other basic materials needed for sewing.

In the future, she plans to open a big tailoring shop and she hopes to enroll her younger children in private school.
