A loan of $900 helped to buy telephones, telephone cards, telephone top-ups, and telephone accessories.

Mercedes Obdulia's story

The members of the "Emprendedora de los Bosques" communal bank meet every two weeks in the Los Bosques residential complex in the city of Puerto Viejo. Portoviejo is a beautiful city of green mountains and delightful scenery, known for many years as "The City of the Valley."

This is where we met Mercedes. She is 55, married, and has three children who are already adults, though two of them still live wih her. Her husband is a lawyer, and she is a commercial engineer (university graduate in Business Administration).

She has a business selling industrial products, such as water purifiers for example. She has a shop, from which her business operates, and where she does her sales through orders.

She has a call center on these premises, where she also sells telephones, as well as telephone accessories, telephone cards, telephone top-ups, and other products. It's going very well, and she has been in this business for three years.

This loan is to buy telephones, as well as telephone cards, top-ups, and accessories.

She is a founding member of the communal bank, and she likes it because of the benefits that the institution offers. Her goal is to keep working, and expanding her business.
