The contact to initiate the present group was one of the members, who invited and organized her friends to become part of the Committee of Entrepreneurial Women program. This is why she calls all her friends by name, since they are all friends and neighbors in this city.

Señora Wilfrida is one of the members, who tells us that her work is sewing and decoration. She has been married to Señor Jorge for 5 years, and she has a son who is 3 years old. Wilfrida dreams of setting up a store to sell clothing and decorations and to succeed this way in offering a better life style to her family and also to continue helping her husband with the household expenses.

She is applying for the loan to purchase the resources that she uses for work, such as fabrics, threads, elastic, scissors, sewing accessories, and other items. She, like her friends, is grateful to Fundación Paraguaya and to Kiva.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
