La Union (Flat) Group's story

The Union is the name of a group made up of 8 happy, friendly, hardworking people. Each one of them has a job to get their family ahead and to make each day of their lives better. They live in an area of sugarcane production and the majority of their husbands make a living chopping cane during harvest (when the sugar mills are in a production period.)

Alejandra is one of the members of the group. She is 37 years old and studied until middle school. She is married to Dionicio and has two children that attend school in her community.

Alejandra says that more than 15 years ago she began selling a little of everything to help her husband with household expenses, but several years ago she began selling hamburgers and hot dogs on weekends in the park of a nearby community. She says that thanks to God she sells quite a few and with the passing of time has made many customers who like her food a lot. What helps her the most is that the church is at the front of the park, and after mass people like to spend money.

She has been very happy because her business is getting bigger and this will help her be able to give her family the best quality of life.

She will put this loan towards the purchase of meat, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, onions, bread and drinks.

She told us that in the future she would like to invest in a few tables and chairs to give the best service to her customers.
