A loan of $975 helped to buy various farming supplies.

Zoubairou's story

Born on November 1974 in Sikasso, Mr. Zoubairou is a married father of three children. He resides with his family in a large traditional extended family in Wayerma I, a working-class district of Sikasso City. Mr. Zoubairou has been in the business of selling fertilizer, seeds, pesticides, and insecticides since he was very young. This business has been the family's only trade since his father's time, so he has a detailed knowledge of the sector.

But he is short on funds for satisfying his ever-growing customer base. He has therefore decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and is now on his first loan, which will enable him to buy 3 boxes of PV seeds, 5 boxes of tropical seeds, 50 sacks of fertilizer, and 13 containers of pesticides et insecticides.

He gets his supplies from Ghana and from Cote d'Ivoire and then sells them wholesale and retail in his shop. His customers are composed generally of farmers, gardeners, etc. Some of his customers pay in cash, others on credit.

With this loan, Mr. Zoubairou envisions making a monthly profit of 200,000 francs CFA that will be used essentially to help with family expenses, to pay the loan interest, and to invest the rest in his business.
