A loan of $1,200 helped to purchase additional fabric and raw materials.

Shadya's story

Shadya is a shy, young mother, living with her child and husband in a one-room, very modest home in Iraq. She also uses the warm and welcoming room to do her sewing work. With this work, she is able to ensure that her family's clothing needs are met and to generate a small amount of income (by doing small jobs for her customers).

Shadya is seeking a loan in the amount of $1,200 from Relief International - Iraq to purchase additional fabric and raw materials so that she can work on larger sewing and tailoring jobs and in turn contribute more to her family's income.

Shadya is under 30, qualifying for a youth loan.

Based on the political and social challenges of lending in Iraq, personally identifiable information about this borrower has been altered for her protection. RI-Iraq appreciates Kiva lenders' consideration of these challenges and encourages lenders to continue their support for Iraqi borrowers.
