A loan of $675 helped to buy pigs.

María Dolores's story

María is a member of the communal bank Unión Progresista. She lives in the community of Santa Ana in Cuenca. This place has a cold climate and is surrounded by abundant nature. From the center of the parish one can admire a large part of the city of Cuenca. The people are friendly, gentle, and keep the culture of their parents.

María is 58 years old, married and through this relationship has seven children. Three of her children are married and live independently. Four are single of which one works and helps her financially, one studies and works remotely, and the last two daughters are studying at a school in the city. Her husband works as a construction worker. The house where she lives is her own property.

María does the household chores and works in agriculture with the harvest for household consumption. She also raises and sells pigs, sheep, guinea pigs and poultry that she sells when she has a financial need.

The member has been with the communal bank for four years and her new loan is to invest in the purchase of pigs. Her dream is to bring up her children, that they finish their studies, and are successful in their lives.
