A loan of $2,575 helped a member to buy supplies for her business.

Alegria Group's story

This community bank is called 'Alegría' (Happiness). It has 16 female members. The women are all entrepreneurs and all work in different fields, including selling soft furnishings (sheets and drapes), selling jewelry, underwear, toys and fruit. All of the women live in Osorno province.

Jacqueline is a member of this community bank. She is also its president. In the photo, she is crouching down in the front row. She is on the far right of the photo. Her hair is tied back and she is wearing a light-colored hooded top. She is holding her young daughter in her arms.

Jacqueline is a chef who makes international food. She has been making gourmet meals for 7 years. She sells her prepared meals to order, by home delivery. She promotes her services by word of mouth and with business cards. She says that the most important thing in preparing her meals is presenting the dishes well as everything "enters through the eyes". She prepares the meals in the kitchen in her house, which she had to extend for this purpose. There she has different machines and appliances which she works with.

Jacqueline will use her loan to buy supplies for her business. One of her goals for her business is to buy a vehicle so that she can transport her merchandise. She would also like to have business premises which are separate from her house, so that she can work more comfortably. Jacqueline lives with her husband and her two children who are 8 and 2 years old. Her dreams, on a personal level, are to become well known in her business and for her business to make her more profit so that she can provide her family with a better quality of life.

Jacqueline is happy and grateful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza have given her as it will allow her to invest in her business. She says that her community bank is responsible.
