Mr. Yem, 28, is a policeman who is living together with his younger sister in Dongkor commune. He is a single man and his sister is a university student in Phnom Penh city. Presently, Mr. Yem’s house is under construction. However, due to lack of some funds, it’s not completely built. In order to enable the performance of the laborers, Mr. Yem decided to apply for a loan from HKL and Kiva to complete the construction. He tells us that he is very confident he will pay his loan back to our lenders regularly and punctually based on the repayment schedule.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
