A loan of $2,150 helped a member to buy chickens.

Los Girasoles Group's story

The “Los Girasoles” (Sunflowers) group is composed of ten very cheerful, kind and hardworking women who daily strive to move their families forward and to be able to offer their children a better future. This group is located in a sugar cane producing area. One of the most important sugar cane plantations in the region is located here and is the main source of employment.

Sara is one of the group members. She’s 39 years old and studied up to third grade of secondary school. She’s married to Mariano and they have three children two of which already work; the youngest is called Erick and he’s attending secondary school.

Sara relates that she’s always worked to help her husband support the family because unfortunately her husband isn’t in the best health. For about a little more than two years now she’s been selling chicken.

At first she sold it in the park but now sells it from home in a small locale she had built. She also relates to us that since she’s now been selling for some time she has an established clientele and her sales are good. She says she’s happy because her husband helps her tend to customers and butcher the chickens.

Sara needs this loan to buy more chickens to continue with her sales. She hopes that with this loan her business will continue to make progress since she wants to move her family forward and to have a better future.

The women who are members of this group thank the Fundación for the trust and the loan it’s granted them.
