Sia Agatha's Group's story

We introduce to you in the photo above teachers of a primary school situated in Koidu/Kono, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. Like their teacher colleagues in other regions of the country, they have requested a loan of 6,500,000 Sierra Leonean Leones from Salone Microfinance Trust (SMT), a partner of Kiva.org based in Makeni, which is in northern Sierra Leone. With this loan, they will be able to meet their immediate financial challenges. At the end of each month, they will repay the loan using their monthly salaries.

The leader of this group of teachers is Sia, who was born in Seidu Nimikoro in eastern Sierra Leone. The 45 year old is married to a teacher, and the couple has four children together. Two are in secondary school and two are in primary school. With 25 years of experience in the teaching profession, Sia is requesting this loan in order to pay school fees for her children.
