A loan of $950 helped to buy sacks of natural fertilizers.

Cesar's story

Cesar, age 34, is a hardworking man. Together with Julia, his wife of ten years, he cares for their children in their own home, which is located in the district of Acostambo. "I have many goals to fulfill," he declares.

Although he doesn't have the money necessary to buy his own agricultural land, he doesn't let this discourage him. Every day he puts more effort into his work, and saves what he can towards buying land. Already Cesar has seven years of experience growing potatoes, other tuber vegetables such as ulluco, oca, and mashua, barley, broad beans, and peas. He says that he rents plots of land from his community because it costs less and this way he also supports growth for its inhabitants.

For every harvest he takes advantage of his trips to the capital to sell his crops. He travels twice a week, bringing maca, peas and potatoes, which he sells at "La parada", the largest market in the country.

As he's a country man, he takes advantage of owning three horses and three donkeys and uses them as cargo animals to transport fertilizer to the fields. "This way I get less tired," he explains.

This is Cesar's fifth loan with MFP, and is happy to know that he will have financial support and feels secure continuing with his work. Apart from anything else he promises to comply with his payments. Furthermore he appreciates being a part of his community bank because all of the members are responsible and supportive.

Upon receiving the funds, Cesar will invest the money requested in the purchase of natural fertilizers to spread on his crops, which include several varieties of potato such as yungay, canchán, Andean and huario macho.
