A breadwinner of the family located in a village of the Moung Russey district of Cambodia, Saro is a 31 year-old mother of two dependent children who are too young to attend school. Rice farming has been her primary business to make a living for the last six years. To earn more income to better feed her children, Saro raises pigs, chicken, and ducks for sale. With her current business, she earns around US$8 per day and is able to save around US$3 each day.

Saro’s group loan consists of three members and this is her group’s first loan with VisionFund. As the leader, she wants to use this loan to buy more ducks and feeds for her duck. She hopes to feed her ducks to be fat and healthy and also hopes to improve her standard of living.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
