A loan of $675 helped to buy fruit.

Rosa Magdalena's story

Rosa is a member of the “Las Cuencanitas” communal bank. She lives in the city of Cuenca’s Los Eucaliptos zone. Cuenca, a city known as Santa Ana de los Cuatro Ríos, was designated in 1999 as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Its residents maintain the culture and traditions of its peoples.

Rosa is 57 years old and a single mother of four children who are married adults now. Three of them live independently and one of her married daughters lives at home with her sharing expenses. She does not own a house; she rents.

Rosa sells fruit, an activity she’s been in for 20 years. She works Sunday to Sunday in a municipal market and has no fixed work schedule.

She’s in her third loan with the communal bank and will use it to buy fruit to continue with her business. Her dream is to have a house of her own.
