A loan of $775 helped to buy toys and sweets.

Johanna Katherine's story

Johanna is a member of the "Las Cuencanitas" communal bank. She lives in the Eucaliptos area of the city of Cuenca. Cuenca is known as Santa Ana de los Cuatro Rios, and in December 1999, was designated as the Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Its people maintain the culture and traditions of their peoples.

Johanna is 19, and in a common-law relationship. She has two children, ages four and two. Her first child goes to pre-school. Her husband works in an industrial mechanical workshop. They don't have their own house, and rent instead.

She sells toys and sweets and has been doing this for a year. She works from Sunday to Sunday, with no fixed hours. She is in her third loan cycle with the communal bank, and she is going to use the money to buy toys and sweets for her business. Her goal is to provide her children with a better education, so they can excel, and get ahead in life.
