Julio Cesar's story

Julio César, 25, lives in La Tinguiña, located in the department of Ica, Peru. Ica is located in the Sechura Desert about four hours south of Lima, the capital of the country, and is acclaimed by Peruvians as The Land of the Sun. It is known in Peru for its frequent earthquakes (an 8.0 in 2007 and 6.9 in 2011), grape production, asparagus, and olives, and perhaps above all as the source of the traditional national beverage of Peru, pisco. As is well known, Peru is known for having the most delicious food in the world, and one of the dishes that Julio César likes is "carapulca" [chicken with potatoes and peanuts].

In this warm and arid climate are his house and business. Julio is a computer technician, but he would have liked to study veterinary medicine.

Currently Julio is a taxi driver. He works at this job eight hours a day. In one day he can serve 30 customers, and this allows him to earn up to 70 PEN daily, and in a good day he can earn up to 90, which helps him pay some additional household expenses and invest in the business. He believes that it is going well for him in his job because he is very polite and pleasant with the customers and, above all, very honest.

Currently he is very grateful to the Kiva lenders because with the help offered he is going to be able to do maintenance on his vehicle. This improvement will be able to help him have a car in good condition, and the customers will feel safe in his car. With this he will have more income and so he will continue saving to buy himself a car and be able to realize his big dream, to work in his field of computing.
