A loan of $450 helped to buy thread.

Ligia Cumanda's story

Ligia is a member of the “Sector 3 Marías” communal bank and lives in a community belonging to Turi Parish in Cuenca. This parish is known at the city’s overlook because a great part of the city can be observed from here; its residents are merchants, raise animals and farm. They are noted for being kind and nice.

Ligia is 36 years old, married and has had four children who are 18, 16, 14 and 12 years old. Her oldest son works just to cover his personal expenses, two go to a secondary school in the city and her youngest daughter has a slight disability and is taking painting courses. Her husband works as a carpenter and the house she lives in is hers.

Ligia has a workshop with employees where they manufacture pants. She’s had the shop for a year and works Monday through Saturday 8 hours per day. Since her business is home-based, she also raises chickens and pigs.

She’s been a communal bank member for 7 years and will use her new loan to buy thread. Her goal is to have a store in which to sell the clothes she makes.
