A loan of $2,550 helped a member buy hair coloring, shampoo, gel, and other beauty products.

La Ponderosa (Cuenca) Group's story

“La Ponderosa” (The Pine Tree) communal bank is composed of 1 male and 8 female members who live in the Monay sector of Cuenca city. This city is also known as Santa Ana de los 4 Rios (Santa Ana of the 4 Rivers). Its architecture is mixed colonial and modern and its people maintain their culture and the traditions of their villages. The members are kind, gentle, and charismatic people, known for being determined, entrepreneurial, and they always see in each day a new opportunity to get ahead together with their families.

One member of this group is Miriam, 34 years old, who is separated from her husband. While married, she gave birth to a son, now 8 years old, who studies in a small school in the city. She owns the house in which they live.

Miriam is a hair stylist by profession and works in her own beauty salon. She has been in the business 6 years and works Monday through Saturday, from 8:00 am until 8:00 at night.

This is Miram's 3rd loan through her communal bank and she will invest it in purchasing products such as hair coloring, shampoo, gel, and other beauty products for her salon. Miriam's goal is to have her own spa.
