Fighting for a better future? We need your help.

Creating a more equitable world takes a lot of time and energy, but at Kiva we’re in it for the long haul. 100% of money lent on Kiva goes to funding loans. That means we rely on donations from people like you to make this work possible. For a limited time, if you donate $35 or more, a $25 bonus will be added to your account (you’ll get an email once it’s there).

A loan of $450 helped to purchase magazines, newspapers and lottery tickets for her business.

María Fernanda's story

27-year-old Maria is a member of the community bank 'Loma de la Cruz' and lives in the city of Cuenca. The city is rich in culture with beautiful architecture, and it's people are very friendly and strive to maintain their culture and traditions.

María is married, with a 3-year-old child. Her husband is a carpenter, and they are currently renting their home as they do not not have their own.

María sells newspapers, magazines and lottery tickets. She has had this business for 10 years and works from Sunday to Sunday without a fixed schedule.

This is María's fourth loan cycle with her community bank. She will invest the money in the purchase of magazines, newspapers and lottery tickets to continue with her business.

María's goal is to own her own home.
