This community bank formed thanks to one of its members, who approached the offices of Fundación Paraguaya for more information about the community bank program for enterprising women. She then invited her friends and neighbors, and they decided to collaborate as a group in order to get ahead and thereby improve their way of life. They are sixteen hardworking, humble women who must earn their living every day. They work independently in their efforts, but also do group activities to cement their camaraderie.

One of the group's members is Herminia. She tells us that she has a small store, and with much sacrifice and effort she can get ahead. Thanks to the hard work and determination she puts into her business, she is able to earn the money necessary to help her family and maintain her home. Her goal is to continue growing and in this way become a great storekeeper.

Herminia is asking for help from Fundación Paraguaya and Kiva to buy drinks, meat, sausage, vegetables and other basic foodstuffs, with which to supply her business.

About Fundación Paraguaya

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
