Mentor's story

Mentor is thirty-nine years old, married, and lives with his wife and three children in the Chillanes canton in the province of Bolívar.

The loan group Luz y Progreso [Light and Progress] is located in the San José de Guayabal area, in the Chillanes canton. This loan group is devoted to short term agricultural work; i.e. cultivating corn, beans, and peas.

Mentor began working as a farmer cultivating corn, beans, and berries three years ago. He makes his purchases and sales in Chillanes.

He is requesting the loan to purchase manure, urea, and liquid fertilizers for use in cultivating corn, beans, and berries. The loan has helped him to increase his revenue so as to provide for his family and to invest. His dream is to increase his berry fields so as to have more income, and also a better quality of life. He enjoys playing football [soccer], and is looking forward to the arrival of the Carnival festival.
