A loan of $1,700 helped a member to buy flour and sugar.

Kantutitas Group's story

The “Kantutitas” communal bank will start its second cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Copacabana Focal Center. It has 8 members led by a governing board headed by Viviana. The communal bank members carry out a variety of businesses among which are: api [a thick purple corn drink, traditionally served at breakfast, and flavored with sugar and cinnamon] sales, food sales, vegetable sales, potato sales, tire repair shop, gasoline sales and neighborhood store.

Viviana indicates that this is the first cycle she’s worked with Pro Mujer and that she joined the institution thanks to an invitation from one of the promoters. She currently has a business that she’s had for years selling api.

The loan she’ll take out now is to increase capital; she will buy flour and sugar in La Paz and after making the api will sell in at the street market. This way of working allows her to generate resources to support her family since she’s married and has five children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes the loans.
