Teofila was the referent for this committee. She had been a member of another committee she was forced to leave it due to stronger motives; but aware of the benefits she would have gained, she invited neighbors and friends she trusted to create a new committee. They are currently working their seventh cycle in the Committee program do the Fundación Paraguaya.
Teofila is 44 years old, she is married with Ireneo, a mechanic, and they have two children. She is a seamstress: she told us that since it’s already some time she has been engaged in this activity, she can count on well-established customers. Her neighbors always order her all kinds of jobs, and she is therefore well known. She intends to continue growing and to keep on providing for family through this activity.
The loan she is requesting will be used to buy fabrics, needles and threads to create clothes to sell.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
