A loan of $1,050 helped to buy foodstuffs and liquor.

Jorge's story

Jorge, 56, is a merchant who lives to the south of the city with his wife. They have 2 children aged 23 and 32. He has a business selling snacks, groceries and liquor at retail, through a distribution system. In his family, all of his siblings have the same business and they all support each other. He obtains a greater volume of sales during the last months of the year, especially in the month of December when the Christmas festivities are approaching as well as the New Year celebrations. At this time of year, the families celebrate together dancing, eating and drinking liquor. It is during this season when he finds that his working capital is not sufficient to allow him to respond to the market, and so he is seeking his first Kiva loan through the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With this loan, he will buy groceries and liquor, so that he will be able to respond to his customers and have products available for their parties. His goal is to be able to have a warehouse especially for domestic merchandise that he would sell to the distributors.
